Prominent republican, Dessie O’Hare, is set to face trial at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin on charges of assault, the false imprisonment of three people and threatening to kill a man.

The 61 year old, with an address at Slate Rock Road, Newtownhamilton, is charged with threatening to kill or cause serious harm and false imprisonment of a man at Rathcoole in Saggart, Co. Dublin, on June 9, 2015 and falsely imprisoning two other members of the same family, a male and a female, at a house at The Towers, Garter Lane, Saggart on the same date.

The former INLA member, who was once known as the “Border Fox”, is also charged with engaging in violent disorder and assault causing harm to another man at the same location.  He appeared at Dublin District Court on Monday last (12th March) where he was served with a book of evidence.

The DPP had applied that Mr O’Hare be tried at the non-jury Special Criminal Court, as opposed to the ordinary courts, which in certain cases the DPP deems inadequate to secure the effective administration of justice.

The order was made and the case has been listed for mention again on March 22nd.
