Six-year-old Katie Moley from Crossmaglen is set to enjoy an early Christmas present when she embarks on the trip of a lifetime this week to visit Santa Claus at his home in Lapland.
The magical trip has been made possible by the kindness of Katie’s nurses in Craigavon Area Hospital, who nominated her for the fantastic festive experience through the Northern Ireland Children to Lapland Trust – a heart-warming charity which makes dreams come true for children suffering from long-term illness.
The Clonalig Primary School pupil has unfortunately been a regular visitor to hospital throughout her young life due to ongoing health issues and her trip to Lapland is sure to be an unforgettable experience and a magical start to the Christmas festivities.
Early on Wednesday morning, little Katie and her mum will join more than 100 excited children on board the fantasy flight to Finland, the dream day beginning on the specially kitted-out aircraft, with treats, fun games and a chance to write a letter to Santa.
On arrival in Finland the children will be greeted by elves before making their way to the Lapland resort for a fun filled day which will include reindeer and husky rides through the snow, a trip on Santa’s magic sleigh, and visits to Mrs Claus’ Gingerbread Bakery, the Elves Workshop and of course a private meeting with the man himself – Santa Claus!
Speaking to The Examiner ahead of the exciting trip, proud dad Eamon told us the family are thrilled for Katie to have been chosen for the once in a lifetime experience.
“Her older sister Ellen (13) and big brother Eoin (11) are delighted for Katie and can’t wait to hear all about her big day in Lapland,” Eamon said.
“She’s been through so much with tests and hospital visits that she really deserves something so special and it really has made her Christmas. We’re very grateful to the nurses for nominating Katie and for the care they have given her over the years.”
The Examiner would like to wish Katie all the best on her magical trip and hope all her Christmas wishes all come true!
