A Newry man who faces charges linked to the discovery of explosives has had his bail conditions relaxed to allow him to attend a family holiday in Donegal.
Shea Reynolds (25) of Commons Hall Road faces a number of charges including possessing articles for use in terrorism and the preparation of terrorist acts, namely targeting a former police officer.
The charges relate to the discovery of a bomb in Lurgan in September 2016 and the accused is one of several men charged in connection with the find.
Belfast Crown Court heard Reynolds, his fiancee and their two children wished to join her relatives for a short stay at a caravan park in Donegal. His solicitor Gavin Booth also asked for his client’s tag to be removed.
The application to relax Reynolds’ bail conditions was opposed by the Crown, with a prosecutor saying police objected to ‘the entire trip’.
The prosecutor said the Crown had received information regarding the application which was conflicting – such as the number of the caravans on the site, the number of people staying in the caravan and the length of the holiday.
He also pointed out one of Reynolds’ co-accused is Damien Duffy, who he is banned from having contact with, had also applied to have his bail relaxed to allow him to go to the same area of Donegal.
Reynolds’ solicitor Mr Booth said his client was unaware of Duffy’s application to travel to Donegal, adding that he had “no desire” to contact him.
Judge RoseAnn McCormick noted that since being granted bail, Reynolds had honoured his conditions “without incident” and agreed to vary the conditions, which include him signing each evening at a local Garda station, to allow him to take a “short break”.
