Sympathies extended to bereaved councillor

 Condolences have been extended to Slieve Gullion Sinn Fein councillor Roisin Mulgrew on the sad passing of her husband Maurice.

Mr Mulgrew passed away peacefully at the family home on Tamnaghbane Road, Killeavy on Thursday, in the company of his wife Roisin and children Brendan, Meabh and Deaglan.

Offering sincere sympathy to his party colleague, Sinn Fein MP Mickey Brady said the loss of Maurice is “a terrible blow” to the family.

He said: “I extend our deepest sympathies to our esteemed colleague Roisin and the family after the sad news of the death of her husband Maurice.  Maurice Mulgrew was highly popular and respected throughout the area.  A hard working dedicated family man, his death is a terrible blow to Roisin, Brendan, Meabh and Dealgan and the wider family circle.   Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”

Conveying their sympathy to Councillor Mulgrew, committee members of Newtownhamilton Community Centre posted an online tribute: “Newtownhamilton Community Association are deeply saddened by the passing of Maurice Mulgrew, husband of a dear friend of Newtownhamilton Community Centre and Slieve Gullion councillor, Roisin Mulgrew.  The Community Association would like to extend their heartfelt sympathies to Roisin and the Mulgrew family at this deeply sad time.  May he rest in peace.”

Requiem Mass for Mr Mulgrew was held in St. Joseph’s Church, Meigh on Saturday followed by cremation in Lakeland Crematorium, Co. Cavan..

He is survived by his heartbroken wife Roisin, sons Brendan and Deaglan, daughter Meabh, son-in-law Anthony, grandchildren Aoibheann, Donncha and Canice, sister Valerie, brothers John, Paul and Peter and wider family circle.
