This weekend hundreds of walkers will take to the streets of Crossmaglen to join in the Darkness into Light walk aimed at raising awareness of suicide and support services available to people affected by suicide and self-harming.
Darkness into Light is an international event and this Saturday 11th May hundreds of thousands of people in more than 200 locations, in 19 countries, across five continents, will get together to walk 5km from the darkness of night into the light of morning, to help in the global fight against suicide and self-harm. Symbolically the walk represents the therapeutic counselling journey and prompts conversation about the importance of mental health and wellbeing in all our lives.
For the first time, Crossmaglen has been chosen as one of those locations and organisers are urging the community of all ages and abilities, to come out in support of this worthy cause and help make the event a huge success locally. Crossmaglen Credit Union is behind the initiative and they are encouraging individuals and groups to participate, especially sports clubs, GAA teams, schools, community groups, work colleagues and friends. They take this opportunity to reach out to local businesses for any help they can offer, perhaps with sponsorship of refreshments or donations, and they extend grateful appreciation to everyone for the support thus far.

Darkness into Light-Crossmaglen takes place this Saturday May 11th, commencing from The Square, Crossmaglen at 4:15am and concluding at 6:00am.
Registration is available online at www.darknessintolight.ie/event/crossmaglen or on the morning of the event, however T-shirts are not guaranteed at late registration. Proceeds of the event will benefit the charities P.I.P.S Newry and Mourne and Pieta House, to deliver vital programmes and services to those in need.

Patrons should note that there will be no vehicle parking in Crossmaglen Square from Friday evening, parking is available at Casey’s complex on the Newry Road, the chapel carpark and at Crossmaglen Rangers GFC.
