The public consultations for stroke and breast assessment services in the Southern Trust area have been extended until Friday 19th July.  The move represents an extension to the consultation period by more than a month from the previous dates of June 18th for stroke care and June 17th for breast assessment.

The Department of Health (DoH) announced the four-week extension, stating that it is committed to the “widest possible public engagement” on the proposals that would see all stroke services being removed from Daisy Hill Hospital and the Southern Trust losing its only breast assessment service, located at Craigavon Area Hospital.

DoH plans to hold a number of public engagement events throughout the month of June on both consultations “to assist the public’s understanding of these important proposed service changes”.

A DoH spokesperson said: “The consultation extensions will help facilitate the vital debate on the best way to reshape services, by providing additional time for the public to fully consider the proposals and submit their views to the Department.”
