This Thursday 4th April, the Ti Chulainn Centre in Mullaghbawn will host an event examining the personal experiences of a number of individuals against the backdrop of south Armagh during the Troubles.

A tale of survival and retaining dignity in the face of adversity, ‘In The Shadow of Gullion’ is a live multi-media presentation exploring the landscape of south Armagh through the eyes of seven victims/survivors of the conflict.

Through the prism of the personal stories of individuals severally impacted by the conflict in the border region, the presentation uses film, sound, theatre, music, song, and narration to foreground south Armagh as an area of natural beauty, rich in folklore, culture, and tradition.

Among those featuring in the narrative is former RAF pilot Mike Johnson, who was shot down by the IRA in south Armagh in the 1970s; Paddy Quinn, who took part in the 1981 hunger strike; Rita Restorick, whose 23 year old son Stephen who was killed by an IRA sniper in Bessbrook in 1997; and Michael O’Hare, whose sister Majella was shot dead by Paratroopers in 1976, aged 12.

This brand new work by renowned playwright, scriptwriter and filmmaker Laurence McKeown presents a narrative that does not interrogate the rights and wrongs of each shared story, but explores the different perspectives of those involved, and the legacy for individuals today.

The event commences at 8pm and is free to attend however booking is essential, contact the Box Office on 028 7126 8827 or visit www.derryplayhouse.co.uk and follow the link for In The Shadow of Gullion.
